SPIRITUALISM: CONAN DOYLE'S TOUR OF AUSTRALIA An Address from the Committee and members of the Stanmore Spiritualist Church, n.d., 2 leaves on paper mounted on card, 395 x 310mm , the address in manuscript in a calligraphic hand, written within the outline of Australia, with a surround of Australian flowers, incorporating a kookaburra and two views of Sydney, including a view of the Heads, Sydney, in watercolour, by Cook and Goldsmith, Sydney, signed by the Committee members; the opposite leaf containing three inset oval photographs in sepia of the dedicators and ACD monogram. Bound in black morocco, the upper cover panelled in gilt with central ACD monogram. The address forms a momento of Conan Doyle's 'splendidly successful mission on behalf of Spiritualism in Sydney'. An Address from the Spiritualists of Melbourne and Victoria, dated 4th February 1921 and signed by the President of the Victorian Council of Spiritual Churches, the leader of the Victorian Association of Spiritualists, and the editor of 'The Harbinger of Light', 2 leaves on card by Goldsworthy and Davey, Melbourne 336 x 215mm , the address in manuscript in a calligraphic hand, decorated in watercolour, with initials in red and blue, titled 'Sir Arthur Conan Doyle M.D., L.L.D.' on a ribboned cartouche surrounded by native Australian flowers (some light spotting). Set into a mahogany hinged binding with 3 metal escutcheon hinges and similar clasp, a kangaroo figurine mounted on the upper cover. An appreciation of the success of Conan Doyle's mission in the 'advancement of the cause in Australia', the address marks the eve of his and Lady Jean's departure after their 5-month tour of Australia and New Zealand 'in the cause of Spiritualism'.
