ONE OF ONLY 93, WITH STAFFORD LETTER. Flown Apollo Soyuz Test Project Robbins medallion made from sterling silver, 1¼ inches in diameter. The crew mission emblem is on the obverse with the mission dates on the reverse. Serial number 1F is engraved along the medallion rim. With a Typed Letter Signed by THOMAS P. STAFFORD and the original plastic storage box issued by Robbins. THOMAS STAFFORD'S signed provenance letter reads: "Enclosed with this letter is my very special Apollo Soyuz Test Project sterling silver medallion. It was carried on the Apollo Soyuz flight during July 15 to 24, 1975 which was the first manned international space flight between the United States and the Soviet Union. The medallion was made by the Robbins Company and is the last of their Apollo series which started in 1968. This is a special one of the 93 sterling silver medallions carried on the Apollo Soyuz mission because it is serial number one. I was the commander of the Apollo crew for ASTP and this flight was the last of my four space missions. I made it a particular point to have the first serial numbered medallion reserved for my collection. Apollo Soyuz achieved important engineering and scientific objectives but proved to be more significant in improving relations between the two super powers during the cold war. I hoped that more space flight cooperation would have been made just after flight, but other world events stalled this effort for almost 15 years. I was proud to serve as commander of this flight and as commander of Apollo 10 during May 1969 and Gemini 9 back in 1966. My first space flight was with my good friend Wally Schirra who commanded Gemini 6. Wally and I made the world's first space rendezvous with Gemini 7 on December 15, 1965."
