STRANGE TALES Nos. 13 and 16 * Lot of Two Comic Books Publisher: Atlas [Indicia: Chipiden Publishing Corp.] Date Published: December 1952-March 1953 Description: #13: VG- (3.5). Stress and moderate reading curl to spine, mild wear to bottom right corner of front cover, some creasing and foxing to back cover. Off-white pages. Cover: Bill Everett. Art: Ed Goldfarb, Ed Robbins, John Tartaglione, Larry Woromay, Ed Winiarski. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 3.0 sold for $200 in 3/16. #16: Good+ (2.5). Spine stress, spine roll, transverse tear to spine with small hanging chad, staples pulled (top staple especially), crimp to top edge of front cover and some pages, fairly mild edgewear, name written in fountain pen ink in margin of two pages ("Signe Prattis"). Cream to off-white pages. Cover: Harry Anderson. Art: Harry Anderson, Sy Barry, Bob Brown, Louis Zansky, Mike Sekowsky. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 3.0 sold for $267 in 9/22. Ugly guy wears handsome mask to woo sexy starlet, then snuffs her when she sees his real mug; editor plummets from skyscraper window (drawn by Ed Robbins with a malicious glee that may have given Stan Lee pause); decapitation pix; maître d' manhandles moocher; boy makes unholy pact with Satan to overcome his rep as the schoolyard sissy. A limited edition of ten hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a few dozen softcovers. Fun reference, great keepsake, fully illustrated, chockablock with obscure facts, gags, bon mots.
