SUN YAT-SEN (1866-1925), Chinese statesman. Cabinet photograph inscribed, signed and dated ("To Mr G.E. Anderson With Compliments of Sun Yat Sen June 17, 1920"), by K.T. Thompson, n.d. [inscription dated 1912]. 7 5/8 x 4¾ in., in a decorative oval mount, slight oxidation in dark areas of image. Very bold inscription in ink above image, signature in lower portion of photograph, date in blank lower portion of mount.

[inscription dated 1912]. 7 5/8 x 4¾ in., in a decorative oval mount, slight oxidation in dark areas of image. Very bold inscription in ink above image, signature in lower portion of photograph, date in blank lower portion of mount. THE FOUNDER OF MODERN CHINA. A fine image of the revolutionary patriot, signed and dated the year after he returned from exile, and the same year he served as provisional President of the new Chinese Republic. A formal pose, the serious statesman in a high collar and suit, looking slightly to his right. Inscribed to the U.S. Consul General at Hong Kong. SIGNED PHOTOGRAPHS OF SUN YAT-SEN ARE RARE: only two examples including the present are recorded in American Book Prices Current since 1969.
