SURTEES, Robert (1779-1834). The History and Antiquities of the County Palatine of Durham, London: Nichols, 1816-40. 4 volumes bound in 2. 2° (430 x 275mm). 81 engraved plates, illustrations. (Small hole in title and text leaf of vol. II, some plates browned and spotted, occasional lighter spotting and staining.) Contemporary calf (rather worn, boards detached). Provenance : Sir Robert Johnson Eden Bart. (armorial bookplate). With 3 others of topographical interest, Peter Leycester's Historical Antiquities (London, 1673, without the map but with the errata leaf at end), Thomas Rose's Westmorland, Cumberland, Durham, and Northumberland, Illustrated (London, [c.1835]), and an [?]18th-century manuscript entitled "The Visitation of the County Palatine of Durham Made by William Flower ..." in old panelled calf. The lot sold not subject to return. (5)
