Contemporary half calf with marbled boards, spine gilt, edges marbled (covers worn and rubbed, paper torn, lacking top compartment of spine). FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with plates watermarked 1826-1827. This fundamental work on Australian botany features plates by Edwin Dalton Smith one of the most renowned botanical artists of the time. Sweet was a prominent promoter of exotic botany, and the drawings were done from live plants grown from seed in London.
