Swiss Regiments Original watercolors, c.1775-1880 SWISS REGIMENTS – [Swiss Regiments in Foreign Service. Various places, c.1800-1880.] Rare collection of watercolor drawings and lithographs depicting different Swiss regiments. Twelve of the drawings are by Nicolas Hoffmann, active 1775-1808; three are by Auguste Bachelin (1830-1890), c.1860s-1870s, signed and captioned in ink, all with the artist’s discrete ink stamps; six are by an unidentified artist, signed “C. Mü”; eight are by an anonymous artist and depict Swiss troops in the service of Napoleon; one is by another anonymous artist who shows an infantry regiment of the Swiss canton of Grison, c.1850; and the single hand-colored lithograph, by Bachelin, depicts the battalion of Neuchatel. Nicolas Hoffmann issued 12 engraved and hand-colored plates devoted to Swiss regiments in the service of France, probably taken from the same drawings featured here. Colas 1459. 30 watercolor drawings and one lithograph, approx. 325 x 205mm, hinged on 440 x 310mm mats (occasional light spotting, especially on margins). Modern cloth clamshell box. Please note this lot is the property of a private individual.
