Negus New York, flared brass bezel, and gimbal with a cast brass floral deck mount, overall dia. 8 1/4 in. Provenance: Reportedly from the Converse family yacht, Calypso. Note: A compass of this type was suspended over the bed of the ship's captain so direction could be monitored while resting. Shown illustrated here reflected in a mirror.
