Mounted etched portrait frontispiece on india by and after F.W. Pailthorpe, one plate and illustrations after Cruikshank. EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with a mounted etched portrait of Thackeray by C.W. Sherborn, and 133 etched, engraved, aquatint and other plates, the majority by and after Cruikshank, 13 hand-coloured, 12 folding, most inlaid to size. Contemporary red morocco gilt by Riviere & Son, the covers with triple fillet borders, the spine gilt in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third, the other compartments with repeat pattern of a large central flower-spray tool surrounded by various small tools including flower and foliage cornerpieces, gilt turn-ins, patterned endpapers, top edge gilt (a few light scuff marks). Wagstaff, 21 engraved or engraved plates (19 by Cruikshank). (Lacking the cancel leaf for pp.199-200, 2pp. of advertisements from the front of part I, 2pp. from the back of part I and 6pp. of advertisemants from the back of part VIII.) Original wrappers with large wood-engraved title on the upper covers (occasional skilful repairs, lower cover of part II replaced with a duplicate cover from part I), all contained within a red morocco solander box.
