A Cosway-style binding in 20th-century dark blue morocco gilt by Bayntun (Riviere), upper cover with inset original oval portrait miniature of Thackeray, the miniature surrounded with double-fillet gilt-border, both covers with wide borders decorated with stylised sprays of roses, the spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second, the others with overall decoration of a scrolling rose bush, gilt turn-ins, marbled-paper endleaves, gilt edges.
