THE 1745 REBELLION -- Arms and the man, I sing. A ballad . [?Edinburgh: 1746]. 2 separately-published parts on 2 broadsheets, 2° (336 x 175mm), both printed on one side. Stanzas respectively numbered I-XII ['To be continued' at foot] and XIII-XXII ['Part II. To be continued' at foot]. (Light foldmarks, part 2 with tears to edges.) ONLY RECORDED EDITION OF PART 2. This scarce satirical ballad on the Jacobite rebellion, 'making fun of both sides,' was originally printed in London in 12 stanzas under the title Arms and the man. A new ballad [Foxon A292 and A293]. ESTC gives 4 locations for Part I of this Edinburgh edition, and 5 locations for Part II, the continuation, which begins: 'Ancore; now let's have th'other Touch of the Song.' The Sequel of Arms and the man [Foxon S202] begins 'Ye whigs sing Te Deum, ye Jacobites fret and is apparently a different composition. Foxon A294 and A295; Macbean p. 12. (2)
