The Colonial Dames of America Medal The piece is of large hollowed oval shape, approximately 35 x 50 mm, with 15 points, depicting a Colonial Dame with scroll reading "COLORE COLONIARUM GLORIAM", engraved on the reverse to Corrine P. Dickinson Kane, No. 192 The medal is attached by a teal and gold bordered ribbon to a clasp at the top reading May 1890 23 in heavy relief, the year of foundation of the CDA, the reverse of the clasp is marked Tiffany & Co. 18 kt. The ribbon bears a total of thirty-two bars, 3 x 35 mm, each inscribed with the names of "qualifying ancestors", including Walter Dickinson 1621-1681, Samuel Dickinson 1689-1760, General Philemon Dickinson 1739-1809 was a brigadier general of the New Jersey Militia and one of the most effective officers of the American Revolutionary War, he was the brother of John Dickinson signer of the United States Constitution, William Swaine 1585-1664, an early settler from England and father of Samuel Swaine 1690, Thomas Wynne 1630-1691, Thomas Cornell 1595-1665 an early settler, left Essex England in 1638 and settled in Boston, when in 1643 he moved to Rhode Island to join members of the antinomian Controversy who had been ordered to leave the Massachusetts Bay Colony, he is an ancestor to a number of prominent American politicians and business persons. In addition there are several members of the Ogden, Staats, Lambert, de Poyster, Willett and de Kay families. Corinne Parrott Dickinson was the daughter of George Fox Dickinson, who was the son of General Philemon Dickinson. She married William Carson Kane in 1903. The piece is from the Kane family which originated in Ireland in the 17th century where they were known as the O'Cahne or O'Cahan clan and has been passed down to the current family members. A fascinating and important historical piece, which is seldom found with such a depth of names connected with the development of the United States. C
