Havell after George Walker (Occasional light spotting or marginal browning, generally not affecting plates.) 19th-century red morocco gilt by Ramage, gilt turn-ins, top edges gilt (upper joint splitting, joints and edges a little rubbed). FIRST EDITION. Abbey Life 432: "Plate 3 is of particular interest in being the first representative of a steam-engine on rails; built by Murray & Blenkinsop, Leeds, in 1812, about two years before Stephenson's engine, it was used from 1812 until 1833"; Brunet II, 325; Colas 3044.
