Beschreibung:

The Douglas-Morris Collection of Naval Medals Pair: China 1842 (R. F. Jermyn, Midshipman, H.E.I.C.S. Sesostris) fitted with replacement scroll suspension; India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Pegu (Lieutt., “Zenobia”) second initial shown as ‘S’, contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine (2) Footnote Lieutenant Rowland F. Jermyn joined the Company service as a Midshipman aboard SESOSTRIS on 30 October 1839, in which ship he saw service in the China campaign. He was promoted to Acting Master in August 1845, and then to Lieutenant aboard MOOZUFFER on 13 September 1847. He was Senior Lieutenant of ZENOBIA when she left Bombay bound for the campaign in Burma, but was obliged to go on sick-leave to Europe soon after the capture of Rangoon. His services at that place, however, were most distinguished as will be seen by the following statement by his Second Lieutenant, Thomas W. Aylesbury: “At the taking of Rangoon we took part in the cannonade and storming of the King’s Wharf Stockade, when Lieutenant Jermyn of the ‘Zenobia,’ was the first in climbing through an embrasure in the stockade. As I saw his white trousers disappear, I thought it was the last I should see of my old friend and messmate.
