THE EARLS COURT MOTOR SHOW CAR 1949 BENTLEY MARK VI ESTATE WAGON COACHWORK BY RIPPON Chassis No. B91 FU Engine No. B 295 F Blue with blue leather interior Engine: six cylinder, 4,257cc, 135bhp at 4,000rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual; Brakes: four wheel drum; Suspension: front, independent, rear, semi-elliptic leaf springs. Right hand drive. Upon the return of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motors to car production in 1945, it was decided that all car manufacturing would be transferred from Derby to Crewe. Launched in 1946, the Mk VI was, compared to its pre-war counterparts, an entirely new concept in both engineering and design. One of the notable differences between the Mk VI and its predecessor was the new 4¼ liter B60 engine which continued in production with refinements until 1959. Featuring an F-type alloy cylinder head and a belt-driven dynamo and water pump, the engine gave a healthy 135bhp at 4,000rpm, with a top speed of nearly 100mph. The bulk of the Mk VI chassis produced were built with the production "standard steel" coachwork. There were a few chassis, such as the one offered here, supplied to the recognized coachbuilders. Chassis No. B 91FU, bodied by Rippon, was on exhibiton at the Earl's Court Motor Show in London. It has a full leather interior, sunroof, beautifully appointed wood interior trim, and an optional period radio. Included with the car is the original British logbook complete until the car was shipped to the United States in 1967, as well as the owner's manuals and numerous service records. It is one of three such examples built. Repainted at some stage, it comes with a complete set of tools and accessories including a complete dash drawer with small tools, a jack, handle and engine crank as well as the under bonnet items a flashlight with cord, oil cans and lubrication accessories. This rare "Woody" has a lovely overall original patina and will provide its new owner with a delightful car for country motoring.
