THE EMIN PASHA RELIEF EXPEDITION A tabernacle frame enclosing five portrait photographs by Van der Weyde of Regent Street of the Officers of the Advance Column, of H.M.Stanley, Lieut. W.G.Stairs, Capt. R.H.Nelson, Surgeon T.H.Parke, A.M.S. and A.J.Mounteney-Jephson mounted in silver frames with Stanley medals flanking the photograph of Stanley above a silver plaque engraved 'Presented by the Officers of the Advance Column/of the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition/to/Mr & Mrs Henry Morton Stanley/on their marriage July 12th 1890. in token of their admiration & affectionate rememberance of their leader.', the whole surmounted by British and Turkish flags below the Crown and royal cypher, mounted on a silver and ebonised wood tabernacle frame, 39 7/8 x 25in. (101.3 x 63.5cm.) overall. An elaborate wedding present given to Mr and Mrs Stanley, 12 July 1890, from the officers of the Advance column.
