Illustrated with 81 color plates. xiv, 352; xxxi, 285 pp. (4to) 32x25 cm (12½x10"), original brown cloth with gilt title, re-backed with red leather spine and corners, new endpapers, with original marbled endpapers still present, gilt top edges. First Edition. Nissen BBI 575. Bennett, p. 37 "Undoubtedly a major permanent work." Eaton spent his entire career at Yale, as both student and professor, except for his graduate studies under Asa Gray at Harvard. His botanical collections are housed at Yale's Peabody Museum. Lot Amendments Condition: Some wear and rubbing to boards and leather; some browning to page edges; very good. Item number: 270585
