[iv], 572; [ii], 592 pp. Engraved folding map and 1 (of 2) engraved plates. Lacking the large folding plan of a slave ship, as typical. (8vo) 21.5x13.5 cm (8½x5¼") early half calf and marbled boards, spine lettered in gilt. First Edition. Thomas Clarkson (1760–1846), was an English abolitionist and a leading campaigner against the slave trade in the British Empire. He helped found The Society for Effecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade and helped achieve passage of the Slave Trade Act of 1807, which ended British trade in slaves. In his later years Clarkson campaigned for the abolition of slavery worldwide. Lot Amendments Condition: Light wear to binding; lacking one plate; light foxing; very good. Item number: 263968
