AN EXTREMELY RARE COLLECTION OF THE MACALLAN 1954-1986 The Macallan is rightly considered by aficionados as the most highly collectible whisky, producing stunning examples of cask-matured single malts from Speyside, particularly their highly prized and exceedingly rare single-cask, limited edition bottlings and Fine & Rare Collection. Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid who obtained one of the first new licenses issued after the passing of the 1823 Exercise Act, Macallan has been passed through 9 hands before being taken over by the Edrington Group in 1999. Whilst it is recognised as almost synonymous with the growth of single malt, Macallan only really started focusing more strongly on their new single malt category in the early 1980s. The Macallan was originally matured only in oak sherry casks brought to the distillery from Spain, but since 2004 The Macallan introduced a new main product, the Fine Oak series, with the whisky mellowed in bourbon oak casks alongside the sherry ones.
