The Macallan--60 year old Distilled and bonded in 1926. Bottled in 1986 Presented in an imposing brass and glass "tantalus" cabinet with wooden base amd a brass screw system to hold the bottle in place. With specially commissioned label by the famous Italian artist Valerio Adami a limited edition of twelve. Signed and numbered "12/12". The 60 year-old malt is the pinnacle of the consistently outstanding whiskies produced by the famous Macallan distillery at Speyside. This example, distilled just two years after the centenary of the foundation of the distillery in 1824, is a great rarity in its own right, but the quite exceptional presentation (see illustration) make it arguably the most desirable and prestigious whisky in the world. The production of The Macallan is a true labour of love, a process of production aimed exclusively at quality. Unusually small copper stills, unique to Macallan, and of which two are used for each wash still, are fired directly from beneath allowing for interaction of the copper. The water used is drawn directly from the Ringorm burn and from private bore holes sunk deep in the Morayshire countryside. Two very important factors in the quality of the whisky are firstly that only about 17 (the heart) of the run is retained, the remaining 83 (heads and tails) being re-distilled. Secondly that The Macallan is the only malt to be aged exclusively in sherry wood. The casks are hand crafted in the bodegas of Jerez, and are then seasoned for 3 years with dry oloroso and fino sherries before being shipped to Speyside for the long maturation process of The Macallan 1 bottle per lot
