Beschreibung:

Glass fiber reinforced plastic, chrome plated tubular steel, brown corduroy, height 74 cm, length 160 cm.
Part of the curated collection 'The wild and the vivid 1970s'.
The jewel in IKEA's plastic collection in the early 1970s was the recliner 'Drake'. The designer Thomas Fränninge was named engineer in the catalogues after contributing with knowledge about how plastic could be molded. Fränninge himself made the seat shells for Drake and delivered them to IKEA. Fränninge's own words about plastic as a material: - Plastic production is still experienced today by many as a semi-secret, experimental activity among simmering test tubes - furniture with strange shapes, made for future space stations. It's time to rethink! Plastic is a wonderful everyday material today, and the plastic furniture are becoming more and more popular.
