Thomas Tompion A small walnut 30-hour wall clock, London, circa 1700 7-inch dial with winged cherub spandrels, signed along the lower edge Tho: Tompion, Londini Fecit, matted centre, steel hands possibly replaced, the posted movement with verge escapement and external locking plate striking on a bell, the frame with turned and slightly tapered pillars, the case with rising hood, moulded top with carved arched cresting, the bracket with later supports41cm. 16in highCondition ReportDial in generally good condition though rather dirty and silvering to chapter ring is rubbed and tarnished, hands are later replacements. Movement is very dirty but is complete and appears to retain the original wheelwork, front and rear verge brackets have been bent to adjust wear in the escapement, otherwise generally good. Case has damage to upper left moulding of hood but we have the piece, cracks and old repair to lower front rail of hood, small piece of veen missing from lower left corner, bracket has hoops and slot for hood locking, the bracket supports appear to have been replaced, case is generally rather dirty and with old scuffs, marks and faults throughout.
