An ebony quarter repeating table clockLondon, circa 1690 8-inch latched dial with unusual foliate spandrels to the lower corners and signed along the lower edge Tho: Tompion Londini Fec, finely matted centre with mock pendulum aperture, the upper corners with subsidiary regulation and strike/silent dials divided by foliate engraving, the fusee movement with seven latched, knopped and ringed pillars, verge escapement with rise and fall regulation, rack striking on a bell and with Tompion's pull quarter repeating on a further bell via inconnecting levers on the backplate (one lever now missing), the backplate finely engraved with foliate scrolls and swags held by metamorphic dophins, signed in a reserve Thomas Tompion Londini Fecit, numbered along the lower edge 168, the case with domed top and gilt carrying handle, moulded base and later block feet38cm 15in highCondition reportDial in generally good condition, silvering to chapter ring a little scuffed and tarnished, three old minor scratches to the matting, hour hand damaged and poorly repaired which could be much improved. Movement in generally good condition throughout but is much in need of a clean and fresh oil, one steel interconnecting repeat lever missing, the other damaged, pendulum holdfast lacking. Case has replaced fret to front door, escutcheon probably replaced, right escutcheon missing, cracks and two small losses to dial mask, rear door now with later trellis grill, and similar grills to upper side apertures, old minor veneer cracks, scuffs and marks throughout, block feet probably replaced, inside of rear door retains a very rare pendulum securing pin. With a later ebonised stand on bun feet (one foot lacking). With a winder but no case keys. "
