Half title, title printed in red and black, 30 coloured plates by Archibald Thorburn Original red cloth gilt (spine faded, head of spine frayed, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance : "H. B. Turner from K. V. T., Nov. 1st 1923" (inscription on front free endpaper). Nissen IVB 939; Zimmer p.635: "A series of splendid plates accompanied by notes on the general habits of the species which are illustrated." With 3 other works by Archibald Thorburn in 7 volumes, British Birds (London, 1913-16, 4 vols.), A Naturalist's Sketch Book (London, 1919) and British Mammals (London, 1920-21, 2 vols.), all in original cloth gilt.
