Alexander’, good very fine (3) £120-150 Footnote Stanley Alexander died on active service on 3 August 1945, while serving as a Flight Sergeant in No. 159 Squadron in the Far East. Operating in Liberators out of Digri, India, from April 1944, but with forward detachments at Jessore, Karachi and Akyab Island in Burma by the summer of 1945, No. 159 Squadron was tasked with long range bombing and mining missions and, latterly, after being strengthened by hand-picked Liberator crews, on path finder duties. This, then, about the time of the recipient’s demise. The son of Mrs. Miranda Alexander of West Jesmond, Newcastle-on-Tyne, he was 20 years of age and is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
