Three Children’s books with illustrations by David Gilboa. Gilboa (1906-1976) – native of Romania, graduate of Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest (1929), immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1933 and presented several exhibitions in Eretz Israel in the 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s and in the USA in the 1960’s. Among the establishers of town of artists in Safed (where his exhibitions were displayed also after his death). 1. Nishmor Al Artzeinu, rhymes by Le’ah Goldberg. Illustrations: David Gilboa. Published by Kopsia, Tel Aviv, [1944]. Short rhymed poems, by Goldberg – printed upon cut papers which partially overlap illustrations. The illustrations – fine colored prints of five-six colors – printed upon complete leaves. The implied theme of the poems and illustrations is the urgent matter of preservation of the Land: preservation, garden maintenance, preservation of beaches, electricity conservation, and more. [9] text leaves, [8] illustration plates, 17X24.5 cm. Fair condition. Slight moth damage, cover missing. Detached leaves. Tears and stains. 2. Totzeret Artzeinu, illustrations by David Gilboa. [Tel Aviv, 1940’s]. Rhymes in praise of products of the Land, with colorful lithographic illustrations, by David Gilboa. Each illustration and text portray a specific Israeli produced product: “Shampoo Ziva Textile”, “Aka Grocery”, “Elite” candy, “Tnuva” products, “Nesher Malt” beer, and more. [38] pages, 16.5X23 cm. Good condition, slight damage to cover, loose leaves. 3. Lapid Hagvura. Illustrations: D. Gilboa. Edited by: Y. Yinon. Published by Nitzanim. [Tel Aviv, 1960’s]. Colorful lithographic illustrations, by Nachum Gilboa. Patriotic tale which incorporates historical events which took place during Hasmonean revolt and story of Chanukah with events of War of Independence: in attempt to defend their homeland eight children travel the country in anticipation of gathering sparks of “fire of bravery” in order to ignite the collective “torch of bravery”. The children wander around Tower of David, Kibbutz Negba, Tel-Chai, Degania, Kibbutz Yechiam, and additional locations. [20] pages, 17.5X24 cm. Good condition. Few stains.
