A fine, large and rare silver pair case two-train "oignon" verge watch with single hand, alarm and travelling case Signed Thvret à Paris, circa 1700 MOVEMENT : manual, chain fusée, verge escapement, large balance with short spring, finely pierced and chased foliate strapwork cock, separate alarm train with foliate engraved fixed barrel, striking with one hammer on a bell in the back of the case DIAL: annular white enamel, blue Roman numerals, inner quarter hour ring, fixed steel tulip hand, gilt brass alarm disc in the centre with steel hand CASE: silver, finely pierced and engraved foliate band, split bezel, loose ring pendant, polished outer case, 65 mm. diam. SIGNED: movement signed , outer case with maker’s mark “JL” ACCOMPANIED BY: period tooled leather fitted travelling case embossed with floral and foliage decoration and steel articulated crank key
