Tiger Iron Slab Western Australia The largest specimen of its kind ever offered at public auction, the interplay of bands of tiger’s eye, red jasper and hematite form a magnificent natural work of art in this slab which is suitable for use as a tabletop. Unique to the desert regions of Western Australia is this ancient ornamental gemstone sometimes called “tiger eye matrix”. Over two billion years ago, when tectonic plates shifted to form the Australian continent, deposits of red jasper, chatoyant tiger’s eye and black hematite were pushed together under great pressure. The material is a textbook example of this metamorphosed mineral with its striking horizontal and vertical patterns formed as a result of tremendous pressures on the original crystals. Spiritually, tiger iron has long been considered a stone which unites these three powerful minerals into a might trinity creating a powerful magical and healing tool. Red jasper is excellent for both its protective energies, defending the user from physical threats and providing courage in preparation for a conflict. Tiger’s eye is known for strengthening the eyesight and for bringing calm to stressful environments. Hematite, because of its iron content is considered to have grounding earth energies. While the stone is billions of years old, little attention has been paid to it until recently. The tiger iron used here is of exceptional quality, entirely homogenous. Only an experienced lapidary has the ability to work this material—a lapidary is required to know the physical properties of each of these three minerals in order to effectively slice and polish it since each has a different hardness. Measuring 78 x 26in
