An inscription from Coolbrith is affixed to the front free endpaper; "To Alfred Sutro, - with just a breath of California in its pages. Ina Coolbrith." Laid in is a handwritten note from Coolbrith to Albert M. Bender: "Dear Mr. Bender; - you can add to [?], of course, your own signature as the donor." Laid in as well is a clipping from the March 11, 1925 edition of the S.F. Examiner, with a story on Coolbrith's 83rd birthday. The poem was originally written for the University of California Commencement Day. It was the first such effusion ever written by a woman for any university. A rare and unique association copy of this desirable book.
