Title: Chiyogami Papers Author: Berger, Sydney E. Place: Newtown, PA Publisher: Bird & Bull Press Date: 2011 Description: With 24 handmade folded sheets of samples. (8vo) quarter morocco and patterned paper over boards, title in gilt in Japanese, spine label with gilt title in English. Composed in Ehrhardt types by Michael and Winifred Bixler & bound by Campbell-Logan bindery. No. 69 of 120 copies. Prospectus (creased) laid in. The Japanese lettering is by the master calligrapher Shozo Sato. Chiyogami designs were originally developed in the Edo period as woodblock prints. The decorative papers were made into colorful paper dolls or pasted on tea tins or small paper boxes. In the twentieth century, these patterns began to be applied using silkscreens and this continues today. Lot Amendments Condition: Fine. Item number: 273217
