Inscribed and signed by the author as John Black on the front free endpaper. "You Can't Win" is the autobiography of burglar, hobo, and librarian for the San Francisco Call, Jack Black. It describes Black's life on the road, in prison and his criminal career in the American and Canadian west in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The book has been cited as being influential upon William S. Burroughs and other Beat era writers. It was made into a film in 2015 but the movie has yet to be released. Rare in the dust jacket. Lot Amendments Condition: Jacket lightly chipped, tape repairs on the reverse; volume with only minor wear; near fine in a very good jacket. Item number: 278339
