TONY LARUSSA'S GAME INSCRIBED BATTING ORDER CARDS Prior to each game, Tony LaRussa exchanges batting order cards with the opposing manager of whichever club may be playing the Cardinals. On August 19, 1998 the Cardinals took the field against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field in a showdown between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. The classic game which followed would see Sammy Sosa take the home run lead in the fifth inning with his 48th of the year. McGwire, not to be outdone, slammed his 48th in the eighth inning. Then in the tenth inning, McGwire blasted his 49th to win the game. Throughout the game, as is his custom, LaRussa made notes on his batting order cards. These notes relate to each hitters at-bats, pitches they saw and general observations about the game. Offered are the two batting order cards used by LaRussa during that game. The cards are signed by both Tony LaRussa and Cub manager Jim Riggelman.
