London: Chapman and Hall, January 1864-August 1865. 20 parts, 8vo, original buff wrappers ornamentally printed in red and blue, lower spine of parts 1 and 6 chipped, ends of most other spines with slight wear (a couple with repairs), tiny ink dot on about half of the spines, small oval bookseller's label (Rice) pasted to lower front wrapper of 10 parts; blue morocco folding case . FIRST EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL MONTHLY PARTS, 40 etched or wood-engraved plates after Hablot K. Browne and Miss Taylor, with the inserted advertisements as noted in Sadleir 19. The Lord Esher set (from a previous catalogue description).
