TRUMAN, Harry S. Typed document signed ("Harry S. Truman"), as former President, 21 March 1956. A transcription of "Margaret's Waltz." 1 page, 4to , FINE.
TRUMAN, Harry S. Typed document signed ("Harry S. Truman"), as former President, 21 March 1956. A transcription of "Margaret's Waltz." 1 page, 4to , FINE. "HER FATHER WAS PRESIDENT, BETTER THAN ANY OTHER..." MARGARET TRUMAN'S WEDDING WALTZ", signed by her proud father. The composition is sung to the tune of the "Missouri Waltz." "Down in old Missouri There's a favorite story told Of a lovely 'Princess' Eyes of blue and hair of gold. She lived in the White House With her Dad and mother For her father was President Better than any other...Young men would pursue her But no man would do...But one day she met 'Him' Suddenly she knew..." "Him," of course, was Clifton Daniel, the New York Times man whom Margaret married one month later, on 21 April 1956, in Independence, Missouri. Another line lauds her "voice as lovely and lyric as a bird." Margaret repaid this devotion by writing a warm biographical tribute to her father, as well as by publishing many collections of letters and reminiscences that enhanced his historical reputation.
