Together with the Lives and Conquests of the Othoman Kings and Emperours..., fifth edition, title within engraved architectural border, 33 engraved illustrations in text (32 portraits and 1 battle scene), woodcut initials, head- and tail-pieces, with initial blank f., occasional light browning, the odd spot, but a very good copy generally, contemporary speckled calf, corners bumped, [Blackmer 920; STC 15055; not in Atabey], folio, Adam Islip, 1638. ⁂ "Knolles spent twelve years on the completion of his great history, which is based on the works of such authorities as Busbecq, Giovio, Georgievitz, Barletius etc. One of his most important sources is Boissard: Vitae et Icones Sultanorum, from which the portraits were re-engraved...
