Lot of 12 CDVs of Civil War soldiers, most unidentified, with many taken by studios located in the Midwestern US, including J.H. Wagoner, IL; view of young man in civilian clothing credited to a woman, "Mrs. J.H. Fitzgibbon," St. Louis, MO; a view of a woman with a young boy, presumably her son, possibly in military costume, credited to John Schofield Frankford, PA; and E.S. Walker, Columbus, OH. Additional highlights include the following: Three CDVs housed together in 4.75 x 9.75 in. frame, showing Abner Edwards, who served as a private with the 139th Illinois Volunteers from May through October of 1864. The trio includes one war-date portrait of Edwards, inscribed (presumably in his hand) on mount verso, and dated May 30, 1864. Imprint of T.J. Luccock, Peoria, IL. Accompanied by two post-war portraits of Edwards. Uncredited CDV of Captain David Van Buskirk, the "Biggest Yankee in the World," standing in uniform in a studio setting, towering over a gentleman in civilian dress. Captain Van Buskirk served with the 27th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He stood at 6 feet 10.5 in. tall and weighed 300 lbs. It is rumored that he wore out five horses en route to Gettysburg. Greenwall & Stringham, Army Photographers, CDV of young soldier with two cent revenue stamp on mount verso. Condition: Range in condition from good to near excellent. Some with scattered spotting, staining. Some with corner/edge wear to mounts, trimmed mounts, or clipped corners. Some with creasing. Three with two-cent revenue stamps on verso.
