Two assocoiated painted stone composition garden figures of Bacchus and the Bather, early 20th century, portrayed standing, the former with smiling face declined to dexter, a wine jug held in his left hand and with drapery across the forearm, a cup in his right hand, on an integreally cast octagonal base, 181cm high; The latter cast after Christophe-Gabriel Allegrain (French, 1710-1795), her hair worn plaited and tied up, nude but for drapery across her upper left thigh, the left foot raised and resting on a smoothe stone, the integrally cast circular base inscribed 'PAP...' to the reverse, 162cm high Allegrain exhibited his original marble of the Bather, also known as Venus at the Salon of 1767. King Louis XV of France thought extremely highly of the work and acquired it for his mistress Madame Du Barry, presenting it to her in 1772, after which it was placed in the grounds of her chateau at Louveciennes.
