Giovinetti's strategy was to grow the premium end of the market through trade enthusiasts and collectors. It consisted in overstocking 18yo and 25yo Macallan and slowly releasing this stock onto the market by year of distillation or vintage. In time, they were able to offer their clients a large range of these vintages, whose value continued to appreciate year after year by at least 15% per annum. Consumers soon discovered and appreciated the fact that each vintage, although it was aged for the same number of years (18-25), was different in flavour and colour depending on the type of sherry cask that had been used for ageing. Moreover, clients and collectors who purchased these bottles would benefit from a constant increase in value, year after year, which is still the case today.
