United States Centennial Commission. International Exhibition, 1876. Report of the Director-General, including the Reports of Bureaus of Administration . Washington, D.C.: Government Printing Office, 1880-84; Philadelphia: Lippincott, 1876 (vol. IX). 11 volumes, 8 o. Numerous folding plates and maps (some chipping, several text leaves lacking from vol. 11). Original cloth (some wear and rubbing). Provenance : U.S. Sen. John Sherman (signature in vol. X). A complete set of the official reports which is "indispensible to the serious study" of this exhibition (Maass, p. 139). Vols. I-VIII were first published in Philadelphia, then reprinted by the Government Printing Office in 1880. Vol. I includes the final reports by chairman of the various committees; vols. II-VIII cover the reports and awards of each section; vol. IX is a larger quarto volume (here in its original Lippincott issue) and covers the grounds and buildings and vol. X is a long report primarily on the War Department's participation at the exhibition. Vol. XI is a report on the other U.S. government departmental exhibits. (11)
