Beschreibung:

.50-70 caliber, 22" barrel, S/N C,21059. Blued and color case hardened finish, smooth walnut butt and forend. Post-Civil War alteration of a US M1863 Sharps Carbine to .50-70 from percussion by Springfield Arsenal with Springfield 3-groove bore. Arsenal refurbished and refinished during the process. Standard Sharps and Lawrence patent markings on lock, standard markings on reverse of receiver weak from arsenal refurbishment. Barrel markings obliterated by arsenal refinish, Lawrence patent markings on rear sight base weak. Crisp script EF (Edward Flather) cartouche over sling bar from original Civil War era percussion inspection, with an equally fine script DFC in a ribbon in the middle of the reverse butt, the mark of inspector David F. Clark approving the altered carbine. The number 1 is stamped deeply into the comb of the stock, forward of the buttplate tang. Barrel not serial numbered under forend, simply stamped "79." Retains original sling bar and ring, ladder rear sight and front sight base with German silver blade. An exceptionally crisp example of a post-Civil War arsenal altered Sharps carbine. Condition: Very fine. Retains nearly all of the arsenal applied blue on the barrel with some thinning and light wear. Receiver and hammer with much of the vivid case colors, showing some dulling and minor fading. Buttplate with strong traces of faded case color taking on a bluish-gray tone. Most of the screws retain large amounts of bright fire blue, others with less and more fading. Most screws with little or no slot wear with only a couple showing any. Mechanically functional, fine 3-groove bore, stock exceptionally crisp with a few minor dings and light handling marks. A really attractive and high condition example.
