Literature : This reference is illustrated in Secrets of Vacheron Constantin by Franco Cologni, p. 251. Catalogue Essay Vacheron Constantin launched the Saltarello model at the very end of the 20th century. This limited edition was available in yellow, white and pink gold. The present watch is one of only 200 made in pink gold. While Vacheron Constantin had previously made watches featuring jumping hours and retrograde minutes, this was the company’s first successful combination of the two in a single wristwatch. Further to this very distinctive way of displaying the time, the savvy collector will be able to appreciate the artistry of the hand guilloché rose gold dial as well as the elegance of the fan shaped lugs. Last but not least, the reverse of the watch unveils another marvel. Seen ticking through the sapphire caseback is the ultra-thin automatic caliber 1120/2, a highly accurate, hand-finished movement with a Gyromax balance and an open worked oscillating weight depicting the Maltese cross. This superb piece can truly be described as a totem of Vacheron Constantin’s savoir-faire. Vacheron's watches are admired for their Latin-influenced case designs, well-balanced proportions and exquisitely finished movements of the highest quality. The Geneva-based manufacturer is known for their highly complicated masterpieces, including the King Farouk Grand Complication made in 1935, the Tour de l'Ile that was the most complicated serially produced wristwatch when introduced in 2005 and the 57260 — the world’s most complicated watch — made in 2015. Key vintage models include minute repeating wristwatches such as the references 4261, chronographs such as the references 4178 and 6087 and the oversized Cioccolotone models such as ref. 4737. Collectors also appreciate Vacheron's Chronometer Royal pocket and wristwatches, as well as the '222,' the brand's first luxury sports watch produced from 1977 through 1984. View More Works
