2 volumes. Edited by Charles J. Holmes. Decorated by Charles Ricketts with numerous woodcut initials. (8vo) publisher's gilt-stamped white buckram. Printed at the Ballantyne Press. The poems of John Keats are presented here in a 2-volume set printed in the distinctive style of the Vale Press. The Vale Press was one of the several fine private presses to come out of the Arts & Crafts Movement. Founded in London by Charles Ricketts, the press issued over 40 titles in just ten years, many in a spare yet elegant style reminiscent of William Morris's Kelmscott Press. Ricketts closely supervised every aspect of the work, including his typefaces, the punches of which were bequeathed to the Thames upon the closure of the press. This dramatic act laid the foundation for the same to be done to the Doves Press Roman a few years afterward.
