Provenance : acquired from H.D. Lyon, 1985. Enea Vico was an Italian engraver and dealer in antiquities born in Parma. He specialized in grotesque engravings based on antique paintings. Vico made engravings for Cosimo I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany and later Alfonso II, Duke of Ferrara. The fine set of engravings that comprise this work follow in reverse a set of prints of cameos by Giovanni Battista Franco (ca 1498-1561; see Bartsch Vol. 16, II:81-83). Brunet V:1174.
