Victorian autograph album, comprising clipped signatures and autograph letters by members of the royal family, peers, politicians as well as prominent figures of the arts, literature, music and threatre, including clipped signatures of Queen Victoria, Ellen Terry Florence Terry and Edward Terry, Henry Irving, Mary Russell Mitford, Charlotte Yonge, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Wilkie Collins, John Ruskin Edmund Yates, William Wordsworth Edward Duke of Kent, John Bright, Robert Baden-Powell, Robert Peel John Everett Millais George Dunlop Leslie Clara Butt; carte-de-visite of actress Sarah Bernhardt signed and dated across lower margin, loosely mounted into album, 1879; autograph letter by Samuel Smiles, signed ("S Smiles") to 'Dear sir', pasted into album, two pages, 8vo, 19 September 1860; autograph letter signed ("John Bright") to J. Fahey ("Dear sir") thanking him for his note, describing a correspondant as "doubtless very vain" and expressing a hope "not to be troubled with him further", and describing his health as improved, although hoping that time may "give me more strength", one page, 8vo, Rochdale, 23 July [18]72; autograph letter by Henry Irving, signed ("H Irving") to Clement Scott on Royal Lyceum Theatre headed paper, expressing that, in regards to the production of the old Scottish drama 'Cramond Brig' under his new management of the Lyceum, he had 'thought of calling it "The Neighbour's Bairn" - that's the name of the child's part' and that he is "looking forward with the greatest pleasure to Sunday", two pages, 8vo, 1 October 1880; original red cloth gilt with floral motifs, wear to margins and spine extremities, yellowing and minor spotting to paper, 4to, late nineteenth century.
