Victorian Sterling Silver Novelty Inkstand Edward & James Barnard, London, 1860 The shaped rectangular base raised on four dolphin supports, with fittings for two cut glass pots with silver covers with shell-form finials, and a central silver pot with a finial modeled as a sailor at a steering wheel; Together with a Black, Starr & Frost Sterling Silver Stamp Box and a George III Sterling Silver Paper Knife. Length of inkstand 10 1/4 inches (26 cm), total approximately 25 ounces, weighable. C
E & J Barnard created inkstands of this style with various different figures, including a figure of Hope, and another for a doctor with a figure assisting another. Paper knife/ meat skewer marked William Stalker & John Mitchison, Newcastle 1774 Inkstand - fully hallmarked; body engraved with heraldic crest; lacking nuts to underside - all mounts to top now loose; the pot with figural cover lacking one screw; glass generally good Stamp box - with script monogram to cover; the hinge slightly sprung (not closing flush) Paper knife - engraved heraldic crest
