Vieux Château Certan--Vintage 1947
1 bottle per lot
TRIUMVERATE OF POST-WAR CLARET The fact that Vieux Chateau Certan made some of the most intriguing, most beguiling wine in the uncertain days after the end of World War II is no surprise to a legion of admirers that consistently vote it the "WOTN" in tastings. The argument continues as to which vintage is actually the best. Vieux Château Certan--Vintage 1947 Pomerol Level: top shoulder; slight sign of seepage, lightly corroded capsule, lightly bin soiled label "A dazzling wine, which I have tasted a number of times over the years, the 1947 Vieux-Chateau-Certan is typical of so many 1947 Pomerols. Its thick, viscous, port-like style and texture are the hallmarks of this vintage. More advanced than the 1948, it reveals a smoky, meaty, truffle, and blackcurrant-scented nose, as well as massive, chewy flavors loaded with glycerin, extract, and alcohol. It exhibits more amber at the edge than the 1948, but, wow, what a mouthful of wine! Like many 1947 Pomerols, its unctuosity and thickness make me wonder if a spoon would stand up in the glass without any support? Drink it over the next 10-12 years." Robert Parker Wine Advocate #95 (Oct 1994) 1 bottle per lot
