Views of New Haven, Connecticut Author: DeSilva, Abraham M. Place: New Haven, CT Publisher: Abraham M. DeSilva Date: Ca. 1880-1890 Description: Four Cabinet Card 6½x4¼" views with descriptions written on card verso include: Temple Street Through the Green College Street North of Chapel, Scientific School at the End Hillhouse Avenue (lawnmower in lower left corner) Battell Chapel Photographs signed "DeSilva" on bottom of card mount. Temple Street bisects the Green into two sections. The New Haven Green is bordered by College, Chapel, Church, and Elm streets. Hillhouse Avenue is a street in New Haven, Connecticut, famous for its many nineteenth century mansions, including the president's house at Yale University. Both Charles Dickens and Mark Twain have described it as "the most beautiful street in America. Battell Chapel is the largest chapel of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Built in 1874–76, it was funded primarily with gifts from Joseph Battell and others of his family. Lot Amendments Condition: Light handling wear; images near fine. Lots sold without reserve are sold “as Is” and are not returnable under any circumstances.
