THREE LOTS TO BENEFIT THE ASSOCIATION DE L'ABBAYE DE SAINT-VIVANT The Abbey of Saint-Vivant was built in the 9th Century, for Benedictine monks to live in. It was they, before the Cistercians, who created many of the vineyards which today constitute some of the most famous "climats" of Burgundy, such as Romanée-Conti and Romaneé-St-Vivant. The Abbey is situated in the hills above Vosne-Romanée, about two hours walk from today's Côte de Nuits. The Abbey is an impressive monument, but after the Revolution it fell into disrepair and parts became overgrown by the forest, until steps began to be taken to preserve and restore it, over the last decade. The Association for the safeguard of the "Abbaye de Saint-Vivant" was created in 1999. Its president is Aubert de Villaine. Through the dedication of the members of the Association, and the generosity of its benefactors, the Abbey has today been saved from becoming a total ruin. Work is continuing, the goal being to open for the public to be able to visit, within the next two years. The proceeds from this sale will go entirely and directly to the Association. This offering is comprised of three lots each of the Climats du Coeur Special Cuvée 2009 vintage. There was a limited production of 1000 cases, each containing four magnums. This offering contains one magnum each of four different Cuvées. Each Cuvée is made from donated Premier Cru level grapes and vinified jointly by two winemakers. The four Premier Cru Cuves are Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. The association 'Climats du Coeur' was formed to raise money to help the poor of Burgundy. The founders of the charity are: Pierre-Henry-Gagey (who had the idea of the charity) of Maison Louis Jadot and Anne-Claude Leflaive of Domaine Leflaive (Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru) Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Véronique Drouhin of Maison Joseph Drouhin (Vosne-Romanée 1er cru) Jérémy Seysses of Domaine Dujac and Erwan Faiveley of Maison Faiveley (Gevrey-Chambertin 1er cru) Jean-Marc Roulot of Domaine Roulot and Louis-Fabrice Latour of Maison Louis Latour (Meursault 1er cru). Aubert de Villaine writes : "We have been lucky: 2009 is a great vintage, but I can also affirm that a lot of work, like a severe selection of the best grapes of each Domaine, dedication and pride have been committed by each winemaker into the elaboration of these four Cuvées." The wines are: Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru 2009 Vinified, aged and bottled by Domaine Dujac and Maison Faiveley from grapes donated by Maison Faiveley, Dom Dujac, Dom Dupont-Tisserandot, Dom Bruno Clair, Dom Rebourseau, Dom Geantet-Pansiot, Dom Drouhin-Laroze and Dom Rossignol-Trapet. Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru 2009 Vinified, aged and bottled by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Maison Joseph Drouhin from grapes donated by Maison Joseph Drouhin, Dom de la Romanée-Conti, Dom Méo-Camuzet, Dom Michel Gros, Dom Comte Liger-Belair, Dom Robert Arnoux, Dom Lamarche, Dom Prieuré-Roch, Dom Grivot, Dom Confuron-Cotetidot and Dom Bernard Gros. Meursault Premier Cru 2009 Vinified, aged and bottled by Domaine Roulot and Maison Louis Latour from grapes donated by Maison Louis Latour, Dom Roulot, Dom des Comtes Lafon, Maison Deux Montille Soeur Frère, Maison Albert Bichot, Maison Bouchard Père et Fils, Maison Olivier Leflaive, Dom Albert Grivault and Dom Bitouzet-Prieur.
