Votes for Women. A very rare political-activist vehicle-mounted badge, issued (it is believed) pre-1914 promoting women's suffrage with the slogan, 'Join The Drive - Votes for Women'. A simple, single-sided badge, probably cast in a combination brass material, and shaped by hand with mounting holes. The common opinion is that William Toye & Co., of Birmingham were responsible for its manufacture, and fewer than 50 were made, before the inclusion of propaganda supporting Women's Suffrage was prohibited. 14cm high. Also offered with this lot are an 1897 and a 1913 penny over stamped with the words, 'Votes For Women'. Together with two bone (?) medallions, one inscribed 1917 Votes for Women and a rose and WSPU verso, and the other, WSPU 1916 and an image of a rose verso. (5)
