(Browning, heaviest at margins, title chipped at outer edge and with central paper tear repaired with adhesive tape). Stitched as issued, preserved in a cloth box. Third edition, first issue (ending at p. 88). Edward Warren was a legal agent employed by William Morton in his fervent attempt to establish priority over Charles Jackson and Horace Wells in the invention of ether anaesthesiology. 'Warren employed the testimonial technique which Morton had used in his Circular, and his Letheon pamphlets in consequence contain a wealth of source material which has an important bearing on the ether controversy' (Fulton and Stanton p. 50). First published in March, this third edition was published by June. Fulton and Stanton IV.19; Norman 2184; cf Keys 283.
